No. 10 Michigan State puts on best performance of year at rival Michigan

No. 11 Michigan State has as strong a resume as any other team in college basketball. With wins over Kansas, Louisville, Providence and Maryland, the Spartans have just been just terrific throughout the course of the season.

So when I make this next statement, I don't do so lightly.

On the road, against rival Michigan, Tom Izzo and company put together their best performance of the season.

The Spartans defeated the Wolverines 89-73 behind an absolutely lights-out shooting performance that saw them shoot 64 percent from the field and make 14 of 22 from behind the 3-point line. Basically, they just shredded the Wolverine defense and got whatever they wanted throughout the course of the game, largely on the back of their two best players:Denzel Valentine and Bryn Forbes. Valentine put up a near-triple double of 21 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, leading the offense at the point guard spot for a majority of the day and picking out the skipped rotations in the Michigan defense.

The biggest beneficiary of Valentine's vision was Forbes, who knocked down eight 3s on his way to 29 points. The two made that connection on four of those 3s, as Michigan's defense just continually failed to be in position to close out on shooters. This example gave the Spartans a 17-point first-half lead that Michigan never recovered from.

Coming into this game, the two teams had been tied at 7-4 in the Big Ten. But unsurprisingly, this game showed that not all records in the league with a clear top and a clear bottom are equal. Particularly, Michigan's resume is pretty lacking at the moment despite a 17-7 record.

They have two top-30 wins, but no others in the top-50 and only two others in the top-100 of KenPom. Now, they're going to have a ton of opportunities down the stretch to get the necessary wins. Plus, all of their losses have come against top-25 teams in KenPom. However, they're going to need to take advantage of those opportunities.

As for the Spartans, this one helps to continue to build a resume that is tracking toward a potential top-two seed in the NCAA Tournament. This one was more about building momentum toward the end of the year though, which Izzo teams always seem to do. Since its little three game stumble right after Valentine returned from injury, Michigan State has ripped off four nice wins in a row here and looks to have regained the steam it had early in the year. If this continues, the Spartans are going to be a tough out in the Big Ten the rest of the way.

Islanders-Red Wings resume after 36-minute delay

DETROIT (AP) The game between the New York Islanders and Detroit Red Wings on Saturday has resumed after a 36-minute delay caused when a Zamboni damaged the ice.

The teams will swap ends of the ice midway through the third period so both teams have to defend on the damaged section.

Detroit leads 4-0 after two periods.

Galatasaray 30 maç sonra gol atamadı

Mali ve sportif açıdan zor günler geçiren Galatasaray'ın Spor Toto Süper Lig'deki puan kayıpları devam ediyor.

Süper Lig'de beklenen performansı sergileyemeyen ve zirve yarışının uzağında kalan sarı-kırmızılı takım, Osmanlıspor'a 3-2 yenildiği maçın ardından bugün de sahasında Torku Konyaspor ile 0-0 berabere kaldı.

Torku Konyaspor ile oynadığı maçın büyük bölümünde hücumda istediği performansı sergileyemeyen Galatasaray, son bölümlerde kurduğu baskıya rağmen gol atmayı başaramadı. Rakibinin gol bulmasına da izin vermeyen sarı-kırmızılı takım, müsabakada 1 puana razı oldu. 

Galatasaray, puanını 34'e yükseltti ve averajla Medipol Başakşehir'in üstünde 3. sırada yer aldı. Torku Konyaspor ise puanını 33'e çıkardı. 

Bu sonuçların ardından Galatasaray, lider Fenerbahçe'nin 12, üç maçı eksik ikinci Beşiktaş'ın ise 7 puan gerisinde kaldı.

Torku Konyaspor ile golsüz berabere kalan Galatasaray'ın ligde 30 maçlık gol atma serisi sona erdi.

Spor Toto Süper Lig'de geçen sezonun 24. haftasından beri her maç gol atan Galatasaray, Torku Konyaspor müsabakasında fileleri havalandıramadı. 

Ziraat Türkiye Kupası ve TFF Süper Kupa maçları da dahil edildiğinde sarı-kırmızılı ekip, son 42 maçın hepsinde gol atma başarısı göstermişti.

Galatasaraylı futbolcu Sinan Gümüş, ilk yarıda sakatlanarak oyundan çıktı.

Müsabakanın 38. dakikasında sol arka adalesinden sakatlanan genç oyuncu, kendini yere bıraktı. Saha içinde sağlık ekibi tarafından yapılan ilk kontrolün ardından Sinan'ın oyuna devam edemeyeceği yedek kulübesine bildirildi.

Teknik direktör Mustafa Denizli, sedyeyle soyunma odasına götürülen Sinan'ın yerine Alman futbolcu Lukas Podolski'yi sahaya sürdü. 

Bu sırada son zamanlarda attığı gollerle dikkati çeken Sinan'a taraftarlar tezahüratla destek verdi.

Mithat Can, Şükrü Özyıldız ve Hande Doğandemir'in başrollerini paylaştıkları ''Her Şey Aşktan'' sinema filminde rol aldı, bu sayede ilk oyunculuk deneyimini yaşamış ve oyunculuk dünyasına adım atmış oldu.

Sezen Aksu'nun ''Tören'' adlı şarkısının söz ve müziği de Mithat Can Özer'e aittir.

Hayko Cepkin kimdir?

Ermeni asıllı Türk müzisyen, piyanist, şarkıcı. Sakin Olmam Lazım ve Tanışma Bitti isimlerinde iki albüm çıkaran Cepkin, alternatif tarzıyla dikkat çekmektedir. Şarkıcı bir çok önemli müzisyenle çalışmış, düzenleme ve aranjörlük yapmıştır.

11 Mart 1978‘de İstanbul‘da dünyaya geldi. Gençliğinde kilise korosundaydı. Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi Devlet Konservatuarı‘nda 2 yıl boyunca şan üzerine eğitim gördü. Cepkin, daha sonra Timur Selçuk Çağdaş Müzik Merkezi‘nde şan, solfej ve armoni dersleri aldı. Akademi İstanbul‘da da bir yıl süresince piyano eğitimi alan şarkıcı, 1997 yılında profesyonel müzik yaşamına klavyeci olarak başladı.

Sahneyi paylaştığı isimler arasında sırasıyla Öztürk, Ogün Şanlısoy, Aylin Aslım, Koray Candemir ve Demir Demirkan gibi isimler vardı. Cepkin ayrıca bu müzisyenlerin bazılarının albümlerinde aranjör ve düzenlemeci kimliğiyle yer aldı. Cepkin, Murathan Mungan‘ın sözlerini yazdığı şarkıların farklı müzisyenler tarafından seslendirildiği Söz Vermiş Şarkılar isimli albümde yer alan ve Aylin Aslım‘ın seslendirdiği “Kimdi giden” adlı şarkının da düzenlemesini yaptı.

Hayko Cepkin, 2005‘te beste ve müziğini kendisinin yaptığı ve evinde kaydettiği şarkıları bir araya getirerek ilk albümünü çıkardı. Alternatif tarzdaki albüm “Sakin Olmam Lazım” adıyla müzik marketlerdeki yerini aldı.

2OO7‘de Tanışma Bitti adıyla piyasaya sürdüğü albümünde rock soundlarını ağırlıklı olarak kullanan şarkıcı, albümde gitarist Umut Töre, bas gitarist Poyraz Kılıç ve baterist Murat Cem Ergül‘le birlikte çalıştı.

Per Kentucky athletics, Alex Poythress is out of Saturday's game against Florida with a right-knee injury.  More information was not immediately available.  Poythress tore the ACL in his left knee in December of 2014 and missed the rest of the season after undergoing surgery.  Poythress is averaging 10 points and six and a half rebounds per game this season.

Ever since Metallica signed up to play a stadium gig the day before the Super Bowl in their hometown of San Francisco, Lars Ulrich has been relentlessly checking the forecast. "The Weather Underground app has taken up a lot of my iPhone time," he tells Rolling Stone. "About a month ago, it was wet, then it was wetter, then it was the wettest. The good news is, as I look out the window, it's sunny and dry outside." He laughs.

Ulrich's good spirits are starting to show. "There's a lot of excitement in the air, both from people that live here in the Bay Area and from all corners of the world," he says. "It's an awesome thing to be a part of and to have in our backyard."

Things are looking good for what is officially CBS Radio's annual "The Night Before" concert, set to take place Saturday night at San Francisco's AT&T Park and to stream for free online. Part of the reason why the drummer has been worried about everything going right isn't just because the concert will be Metallica's first of 2016, but also because they'll be debuting a new stage production. "It's big," he says. "I mean it's really big. I haven't seen it yet, but I got sent the first pictures last night, and it's very vivid. It'll light up the sky." He laughs again.

Getting everything right for the show is a chief concern for the band. Usually, they're able to work out the kinks of a new production on the road, but since the Night Before is a one-off, they're going to hit the ground running. In order to get ready, the band is doing something they rarely do: play a soundcheck on Friday and invite their fans to watch. "Soundchecks can be notoriously uninspiring, but since we have to get some cobwebs out, and we figured people will be coming in from far away for the game, we invited 250 fan club members," Ulrich says. "It'll up the ante and keep us on our toes."

Asked what fans can expect from the show's set list, Ulrich says he and the band have been readying what its production manager Dan Braun calls Metallica's "toe-tapping favorites."

"If I told you that we were going to play all the deep, obscure tracks from Load and ReLoad, you know I'd be lying to you," he says, chuckling. "I don't want to dampen anyone's enthusiasm, but we're leaning a little bit towards the classics. We do so many different configurations of set lists for if we're playing theaters, somebody's basement, arenas, and recently at our last couple of indoor shows, we went very deep. Last summer, we played 'The Unforgiven II,' which we'd never played live before, and we had tracks like 'Disposable Heroes' and 'Metal Militia' and 'King Nothing' after a long absence. But I will go out on a limb here and say we will lean on the classics. There will be a significant portion of those, whatever they may be."

So when it's all done, and Ulrich is watching the big game the next day, who will he be rooting for, the Denver Broncos or the Carolina Panthers? "The Seahawks!" Ulrich says, laughing. "But I don’t think that will do much good. You got me on that one. Sporting events have the tendency to be a lot more interesting when you actually care who wins.

"Last year, that was a pretty fucking awesome football game," Ulrich continues. "And three years ago with the 49ers, where they came down to the last play, was insane. This year, who knows? I hope that people find the city of San Francisco a great host, and I hope that it plays out the way people want it to. I'll be checking out the commercials." He laughs.

Capitals face a crowded calendar over the last two months of the season

As defenseman Karl Alzner scanned the NHL standings, he noticed other teams seemed to be gaining ground on the first-place Washington Capitals. Though it felt like he hadn’t played in ages, he knew the Capitals hadn’t gone through a serious losing spell, so how did the others catch up so quickly?

“You look at the games played, and it’s so different,” Alzner said.

While the second-place Chicago Blackhawks have played 55 games, the Capitals have played just 49, tied for the fewest in the league. Before the all-star break, Washington had seven breaks of three or more days, but facing 33 games in 65 days, the Capitals won’t get a break of more than two days for the rest of the regular season.

Washington has weathered injuries and suspensions to get to its impressive 36-9-4 record, but the weather has arguably been the team’s biggest adversary. A blizzard caused two games to be postponed until after the all-star break, creating a two-week stretch with just two games and increasing congestion in an already crowded second-half schedule.

With players just now rediscovering their game sharpness, the routine of playing every other night is a welcome change for now. But the scarce rest will also be a challenge; that can contribute to injuries, and the busy schedule leaves fewer practice days to help ease a player back into the lineup.

“Ideally, I think you’d like to have maybe a game, one day [off], game, two days [off], game, one day, game, two days,” Alzner said. “That’d be perfect. . . . It was so nice when we had those days off, but obviously there’s going to be a time in the schedule when we’re going to be tired.”

As the Capitals were getting hammered by the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, down 4-0 through two periods, Capitals Coach Barry Trotz resolved not to yank backup goaltender Philipp Grubauer. Barring an injury, Trotz said, Grubauer was going to play the entire game, because the busy schedule will be especially taxing on top goaltender Braden Holtby.

Holtby is expected to play both games of Washington’s back-to-back matinees this weekend, though Trotz said Grubauer will get 25 percent of the starts the rest of the season. Holtby prefers fewer breaks; he’s statistically at his best with just one day of rest with a 1.84 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.

When he has more than three days of rest, Holtby has a 2.20 goals against average and .923 save percentage. He’s not the only Capital who thrives on getting into a rhythm by playing regularly.

“It’s a lot easier,” Michael Latta said. “You’re in constant game mode all of the time. Your focus never shifts. Always the day before a game and game day, you’re always preparing for the game. When you have a few days off, three days off or four days off, you’re like, okay, maybe I’ll have a cheap meal or let loose a bit. That’s just how it goes.”

Said Tom Wilson: “It’s just about taking care of your body. You know you’re going to be playing a lot of hockey, so maybe you just have one beer instead of three.”

Having fewer pure practice days complicates returning injured players to the lineup. When the Capitals had breaks in the schedule earlier this season, some players could skate in a few practices in a row before playing again. But with mandated days off per month and more games per week, practices now will resemble morning skates — shorter and less intense.

The Capitals have three injured players — Marcus Johansson, Jay Beagle and Brooks Orpik — and with fewer practices, Trotz said he will limit ice time in games as a way to ease players back into the lineup.

He also knows that a congested schedule could mean more injury woes are ahead.

“We’ve just got to get our game and rhythm, and playing every second day for the next two months, it’s going to be pretty easy to do,” Trotz said.

“I think that’s rhythm. Guys are going to get banged up during that time, and we’re going to have to adjust to it, just as we have all year.”
